Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about PixelZip - how it works, what it supports, and how your data stays private.

General
1
Is PixelZip really free?
Yes, 100% free. No account needed, no limits on personal use, no hidden fees. PixelZip is a free tool built and maintained by PixelBay Agency UK.
2
Are my images uploaded to your servers?
Never. All processing happens directly in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device - not even for a millisecond.
3
How many images can I process at once?
Up to 100 images per batch, with a maximum of 50MB per image. For larger volumes, simply run multiple batches.
4
Does PixelZip work on mobile?
Yes - PixelZip is fully optimised for mobile. Use the Choose Images button to select photos from your camera roll, convert them, then download individually or as a ZIP.
Formats & Quality
5
What output formats are supported?
WebP, JPG and PNG. WebP is recommended for websites as it gives the best compression. JPG is universally compatible and great for photos. PNG is lossless and best for logos and graphics.
6
Why use WebP over JPG?
WebP typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at equivalent visual quality, and is supported by all modern browsers. It's the recommended format for websites and web apps.
7
Why is my converted image larger than the original?
This can happen when converting to PNG (lossless) from a heavily compressed JPG, or when the quality setting is higher than the original. Try reducing the quality slider or switching to WebP.
Settings & Features
8
Can I process a whole folder of images?
Yes - on desktop, use the Add Folder button to select an entire folder. All supported image files inside will be queued automatically.
9
Can I rename my images during conversion?
Yes - toggle on Rename Image in the settings, enter a prefix, and your exported files will be named prefix-001, prefix-002 and so on.
10
What does Remove Metadata do?
It strips Exif and IPTC data from your exported images - including camera model, GPS location, date taken and copyright info. Recommended for privacy and slightly smaller file sizes.
11
Can I resize images as well as compress them?
Yes - enter a maximum width and/or height in the Resize fields. PixelZip will scale your images down to fit those dimensions while always maintaining the original aspect ratio.
